em·gee·eych·tee·bee /ɛm dʒi eɪtʃ ti bi/
I’m into a lot of things that my girlfriend just doesn’t like: gadgets, electronics, programming, science-fiction, photography… Apparently she doesn’t.
Do I care? Well, this is my blog and I can do anything I want with it!
What programming languages and environments do I use?
A majority of my time is spent using Javascript, JSON, CSS, C#, XHTML and SQL Server. Mootools is my Javascript Framework of choice, but I also use jQuery, PHP and MySQL when developing WordPress templates.
I build ASP.NET/ASPX applications that run on Windows based web servers using Visual Studio 2010, while I build Java/JSP web applications running on Apache Tomcat web servers using Eclipse and the Spring Java Framework (STS 2.6).
I specialize in the “Web 2.0″ world – using AJAX and Javascript Frameworks to enhance the functionality of websites and web applications. While I enjoy working on the “client-side” or “front-end” of the web world, I also enjoy building “middle-tier” apps. These web services, usually written in C#, typically consume data from databases and asynchronously serve up JSON (or XML) to the front-end.
Check my Resume Page for a more detailed explanation.
What were you doing before all this Web 2.0 stuff?
Before the web became super fancy, my portfolio of work consisted of enterprise-scale web applications written in HTML, ASP, Javascript, CSS and VBScript which communicated with Stored Procedures (sometimes through COM objects) directly connecting applications to SQL Server databases.
Before AJAX became a household name, we had to post to hidden IFRAMEs and populate the DOM via Javascript after the content finished loading – which helped us do what I now take for granted with Mootools. The web is a lot better now with all the better tools that I get to use…
What do you do in your spare time?
I like digital photography – I used to do a lot of macro photography and night photography when I first started with digital cameras. Now I’m interested in making music slideshows and music videos (using iMovie or Adobe Premiere Pro) in my spare time with all the stock photos I’ve taken over the years.
What does your girlfriend think about all this?
My girlfriend, now my wife, doesn’t care much about any of this stuff. But I still love her, so I guess that’s okay!
